Stephanie Potter

December's Member of the Month was with us for a bit back in our Foundry days and after a brief hiatus is back at it and has been a regular attender to our 6AM class. Stephanie is proof that consistency pays off! We're glad we've been seeing you so often lately; keep up the good work!

Tell us about yourself (family, schooling, job, sports, military, interests, etc.)
I have a two daughters who are 12 and 10 and a 2 year old son. I am engaged and getting married June 22,2019.  I have lived in Portage for 18 years but grew up in Mazomanie, WI. While growing up,
I wanted to be a police officer, but life happened and I ended up going to college for business management; I now have the dream job of being the GM of Vintage Motorcars in Sun Prairie, WI.  I run on a regular basis, and my goal for this year is 500 miles. I am planning on doing 3 half marathons this year along with a few 10k's and 5k's here and there. I love playing every sport but my favorite is soccer. I started playing soccer when I was 5. I still enjoy playing softball, volleyball, and basketball every chance I get. My daughters are both members of the US Navy Sea Cadets program out of Sheboygan. My favorite thing to do is explore waterfalls. I love going to northern WI a couple times a year and finding new ones and exploring other states to see what they have. My favorite place for hiking and waterfalls is Tennessee. I enjoy pretty much everything you can do in the summer and it's a bonus if it involves water. In the winter, I enjoy snowboarding and leaving Wisconsin to go somewhere warm. The most important thing to me is family.

When did you start doing CrossFit?
The first time I did CrossFit was a few years ago when the Foundry was open. I only did it for about 4 months though. I started with Portage CrossFit Coop in April of 2017. It took me until about October to get on a consistent schedule, but now I feel like I'm missing a part of my day when I'm not able to make it in.

What is your favorite movement and/or benchmark workout?
This is a tough one because I don't know that I have one. I like the challenge of all the workouts and movements. Out of all the movements Push Press or Strict Press are probably the ones that I'm the best at, because they don't involve a lot of other movements and they're the hardest to overthink. My favorite workouts are the ones where you really feel like it kicked your butt.

What has been your biggest struggle?
I would say snatches; I know I have a lot to work on when it comes to a lot of the movements, but I enjoy the challenge and know that with enough practice the things that I'm uncomfortable with will come.

What has been your biggest improvement?
I haven't been told to keep my knees out while squatting in a while.

What goals are you currently chasing?
My current goals are to get to where I can do pull-ups, not just 1, handstand pushups with only 1 mat, 24" box jump, more RX WODs, increase weight on all movements, and most importantly have consistent/proper form on all of the movements.

If you could design a workout, what would it be?
5 Rounds
1 min Push Press
1 min Sit Up
1 min Clean
1 min Row
1 min Rest

How often do you talk about CrossFit?
Everyday, I love it.

Burpees: Love ‘em or hate ‘em?
I don't mind them in short spurts like 7-10 at a time. I hate them 50-100 at a time.

Do you have a favorite story about the Coop?
I don't have a specific story but my favorite part about the Coop is that no matter how many rounds or how fast you do the rounds everyone high five's at the end of the workout and says good job. The support here is amazing.

What advice would you give a new PCC member?
Don't get discouraged or compare yourself to anyone else. Don't be afraid to modify. Keep track of your workouts. I didn't start to do this until I was 6 months in and I regret it. Always listen to the coaches; they are always trying to help you improve. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions or get a little extra help with a movement that you're not quite getting.  Know your limits and don't be afraid to stop when you meet them or push until you find them. Most importantly, Have Fun!

Rock Rockhill

I, Cassie, personally apologize for the lack of Member of the Month posts on time the past few months! Between technology, forgetfulness, life, and a photo that went missing, I, along with all of the other wonderful PCC coaches, am proud to announce November's Member of the Month is Rock Rockhill! Many of you may know Rock as a local business owner in the community and we are happy to have him as part of our crew. Awesome work, Rock!

Tell us about yourself:
I joined PCC because I have 2 boys, Oakley and
Ryker. I “talk a lot” about the importance of being in shape and taking care of yourself and the choices they make. Then I took a “mirror test” …Failed… (I wouldn’t listen to me either!), and decided to “Do” something about it. Hopefully this will give them a better understanding of what I’m trying to say.

When did you start doing CrossFit?
I started the first week of September 2017

What is your favorite movement and/or benchmark WOD?
Box jumps!

What has been your biggest struggle?
The ropes (I used to be able to do these 20 years ago and was actually good at it sadly, I couldn’t even get off the box when I tried) and double unders.

What has been your biggest improvement?
The row machine and as of Dec 21 I climbed the rope (might we add LEGLESS)! Twice!!

What goals are you currently chasing?
I am going to start running 5k organized runs again.

If you could design a workout what would it be?
ANYTHING… EXCEPT WALL BALLS!!!

How often do you talk about CrossFit?
Weekly.

Burpees: Love ‘em or hate em?
Love burpees!

Do you have a favorite story about the Coop?
“GOOD MOURNING…… ROD!”

What advice would you give a new PCC member?
Listen to the coaches. They are very knowledgeable and encouraging. All you have to do is show up. ALL the people in PCC are not like others in my opinion. You will have to experience for yourself. I feel there is great leadership in this club and it doesn’t take long to figure that out!
